My Ethics Code

As a journalist, ethics play a very important role in everything I do. Not only is it vital to convey information to the public in an ethical way, but it is also important to be ethical in any scenario in life. Values that define my code of ethics are honesty, optimism, perspective, accountability and communication.

Honesty is the best policy... We've all heard it and it never fails to stand true. As a journalist I strive to always report facts.  Being honest will reflect in all apects of life whether that is work, home or wherever. Remaining honest will aid in growing my self and public image alike.

Optimism I would like to consider myself a optimistic realist. I always stick to the positive side of things and hope that it rubs off on those I am working with while remaining realistic with the task at hand.

Perspective It is very important to have perspective and compassion when working in journalism. You will be faced with all sorts of tasks and meet all kinds of people. While everyone seems to have pre-conceived notions about people, it is vital to put their lives or situations into perspective and report from an unbiased standpoint.

Accountability is a very important skill to have when it comes to teamwork. If you are given a task to complete, for the sake of so many other people around you, it is important to stay accountable and on top of your assignment.

Communication While you think this one would be a no-brainer for a journalist, it goes deeper than it might seem. I strive to be a great communicator between collegues, coworkers, bosses, really anyone. If there is a problem the best thing to do is communicate openly and professionally about it instead of ignoring the issue.
